2nd time in a live setting today. Simple OPP count. Really aggressive ( I think ) 1 to 16 spread. Sat down at a table that looked like the shoe was almost finished and said I'd wait cor the next one. Said no to players card was immediately asked for Id! Was that heat? Hadn't even played a hand yet. Anyway had chance for my max bet 16 unit bet and couldn't pull the trigger haha. Lost hand anyway.

...Was that heat?...

Depends on if you look like Connor Halliday

or Donovan McNabb

if the former no, if the latter, yes.

I don't get it... did you show the id or not? if you had not played a hand, how is there any ratio between your bets of anything much less sixteen to one?

No, that is called marketing.

Yea I showed the ID. But I've literally never been asked before after telling them I have no players card. It was weird. Maybe he thought I looked young but I'm bearded and late 20s. It was just sketchy to me , probably just paranoid. On a side note 1 to 16.... I should leave after that max comes out right?

Many players get "nervous" and don't actually bet according to their bet spread. Be careful! This costs a ton in EV and could potentially ruin a winning game. Put together a profitable spread you're comfortable with... which is ideally the max your bankroll can handle and the max you think you can do no problems at a casino. You've got to pull the trigger on your max bet.

How you play and when you leave depends on your situation. Are you playing at a near home casino without many other options around? At that point you might need to deploy some cover (both free and with a cost) so you can camp out a bit longer. Are you in Vegas where the games aren't the best but there's TONS of them? Then the general rule of thumb is about 45 minutes to an hour without putting your big bet out, or to leave after showing your big bet.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

You old farts are lucky.

I'm 25 and get ID'd damn near 100% of the time I sit down at any table.

East coaster. Only 4 shops available with one being really close. I'm still getting used to all this. Thanks for the replies. I don't get the Donovan McNabb reference lol

I Googled images of Redskins QB's and he popped up. The point was that if you look young (you mentioned that you had only played a few times prior), getting carded is not "heat". However, I would not put it past the casino to use an ID check for other purposes.

I was told by a MGM dealer once that they were instructed to card "anyone who looks younger than 30".

I can't speak for every casino employee on Earth, (especially since I've never been one) but I don't want to lose my job because I was counting on someone else to do their job right.
