Just got an email about this:

http://mohegansun.com/events-and-promotions/schedule-of-events/201404-legends-blackjack-tournament1.html

I've never entered a tournament, or even watched one. I don't know the rules, whether it's a good idea to advertise my vastly self-inflated skill level, or if it's a waste of time. Does the $100 buy you a bag 'o chips like in a poker tournament, or just provide you with a seat, BYOMoney? Basic strategy, obviously, but does one count? Anyone got any suggestions or caveats?

Most blackjack tournaments are "shootout" style. You have to have the most chips remaining at your table after a fixed number of hands.

You play most hands by basic strategy, but really you just want to give yourself a chance to win at the end. So you may make some strange plays on the last few hands. Sizing your bets properly is far more important than how you play the hands. Remember that your wins/losses are correlated with your opponents' (since you are all playing against the same dealer hand) so bet the same as them when you are winning, and differently from them when you are behind. In other words, if you are behind, and they bet big, you bet small (hoping that you both lose) and if they bet small, you bet big (hoping that you both win). Remember that you are not trying to maximize EV; you are trying to maximize your chances of having the most chips at the end. These are not even remotely close to the same thing.

For detailed Blackjack Tournaments Information you should go to https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/

If you have never played in a tournament, then you would probably want to go to http://www.blackjackinfo.com/ first and click on the Black tournaments link which is a great place for beginners to get all the basic info and strategy on playing BJTs.
