I noticed "Bet The Bust" side bet as part of one of the Blackjack tables at Hard Rock Tampa. The supervisor and I were talking about what happens if all hands bust (or Blackjack) and that bet has been played. Apparently at HRT, they refund the bet before the dealer will flip the hole card. It came up because I was playing heads-up, and I knew the Dealer showing an 8 has a pretty low HE for a side bet (~2.5%) and I was thinking I'd play it once or twice. Well I was given a 14, played the side bet, and then busted. Because there was no one else at the table, there was no reason to play out the dealer hand. She refunded my money, then flipped the hole card as is standard and had an 18. It also happened where I BJed and there was an 8 up.

Anyone else play someplace where they play the dealer hand out to completion to resolve the side bet? Two supervisors were kind of debating it like they weren't even sure if they were doing it correctly...

Overall I didn't mind the bet on the table heads up, because she knew I wasn't going to play it. But when more people came to the table, it was an extra step of brief hemming and hawing after everyone got their first two cards.

Most dealer bust type bets require the dealer to play out the hand to resolve any bet. This is relatively rare.

I agree. Why would they give up a 2.5 to 20% House Edge because they don't want to deal a couple of extra cards? (Or not even have to deal an extra card if it's a pat 17-20.)

Sorry to wake up another old page but here is another long time side bet that I always assumed was on my site, but wasn't. I already had a spreadsheet for it formatted for HTML. I think what happened is during one of my many site upgrades some stuff I was working on at the time of the conversion simply got lost.

Anyway, please have a look at my new and improved page on Bet the Bust. As always, I welcome questions, comments and especially corrections.

The main thing I'm unsure of is what happens if at least one player makes the Bet the Bust wager and every player busts. Does the dealer play out his hand or not?

If anyone knows, please let me know.

This looks like Galaxy's "Bust Bonus" side bet with a different pay table. Wiz, you do have Bust Bonus on WoO as of 9/2016 when you saw it at Silver Dollar Seatac...I believe it is still there and paired with Lucky Ladies on one of their two BJ tables.

Who is distributing "Bet the Bust"?

Thanks! What would I do without you guys? That looks like an orphaned page on the site (i.e. one with no links to it). For your help, you don't owe me that beer anymore for that trip I made to the Red Rock.

Is this wager incredibly countable?

Sheesh ... really?

That's a good one. I think I can get five:

Larry
Moe
Curly
Curly Joe
Shemp

I had to look up number 6, just "Joe."

Got it...

For anyone wondering, the answer to my question was no. The wager is not very countable.

Sorry Eliot

I originally typed in "five" but quickly remembered there were two Joes. Besser and Derita.

Not really a math guy so here is my question. If I only played this with the dealer showing a 5 or 6 how would this effect the house advantage of the game as a whole if the dealer stayed on soft 17? If it's even possible to figure out.

Hi Wizard, its the first time for me in your forum abd i‘m not sure where to post my request.
I apollogize if i did something wrong. Here is my question

i kindly ask for your help regarding Black Jack Side Bet „Bust“ Mathematics.

We have a Black Jack Game 6 decks yousing a One2Six Shuffle Machine.
The Dealer has only one card dealt, and stands on soft 17.
Side Bet of Bust pays 2.5 to 1
On a 5$ Minimum Table , the Maximum Bet on Bust is 10$
The house edge on Bust is in my opinion 1,44%

How much will the house edge drop, if you:

- Allow players to increase the maximum bet on bust to the same amount they bet on their box.

- If you increase the players maximum on bust to the 10x amount of the table minimum.

What do you suggest is the optimal maximum amount on Bust the Casino should allow players to bet.

I‘m looking forward to your suggestion.
Thank you very much!

As you say the House Edge (I used infinite decks) is about 1.44% (assuming the dealer still draws even if all player hands are resolved). The main problem for a casino is that this is almost certainly countable so I can understand why you would have a maximum spread of 2 to 1 (i.e. $10 on a $5 table). If you were using a CSM then there would be a very small risk of allowing larger bets. However if you were using a six deck shoe then you need to take in account vulnerability to counters, your risk strategy will determine how much you're willing to allow.
