I was playing single deck 3/2 min $5. Whenever I bet $20 the dealer would say check alot and pit bosses started to watch. I wasnt playing long. I've seen other people bet 50 and not get checked. I tried covering too. Anyone else been checked for $20?

I have not been checked for anything under $100, but I have also never played single deck. A lot of places are incredibly sweaty about their single deck, which is understandable since it is so easy to beat.

Don't mess around with cover if you are using a $5 unit. One cover play will cut into your expected wins for an entire session/day/week depending on how bad it is. Keep your sessions at this place short and play it by the book.

I posted about El Cortez earlier. $25 usually does the trick if you're a $5 min bettor although $5 - $20 bets were enough to convince a suit to back me off after he pitted me for Stanford Wong Jr. The pit boss went through the discards, probably realized I perceived it as running minus 5... the rest is history.

I'm not a very good actor. I don't tell others how to play or comment on strategy. I'm mostly quiet. I'm friendly and I smile. I tip occasionally - very little but better than nothing. It was my first time dealing with real heat. I didn't handle it well. I think I would have had enough time to color up and leave before he had time to tell me it's time to go. Instead I sat there for a couple more bets while he sat next to me and watched. I even shook his hand, introduced myself by first name, and told him, "It's an honor," as in it's an honor for me as a professional gambler to be backed off by a casino for the first time for being an AP.

I think you missed the sarcasm.

You were not "checked" for twenty. Its more likely that you were checked for going from five to twenty. This sounds like the Hell Cortez and if so, you got just what you and everyone else should expect there.

It didn't happen to me but I've been told the same thing happens at South Point (Same Ownership) you can play blackjack at table minimum if you want to but heaven help you if you want to increase your bets halfway through the shoe. They will back off red chip players at South Point who appear to be counting and only slightly raising their bets at good counts.

I'm a professional poker player who sometimes goes out of my way to bonus whore, participate in hole carding teams that specialize in finding sloppy dealers, and other gaming endeavors. Making a few hundred bucks playing bj is just a side step. Even though it wouldn't be for me, yes you can make some kind of a living betting $5 - $30 or $40 playing 3:2 single deck at El Cortez using hi - lo. I think it may be fair to say that if you put in the hours, it would be a better living than that of the dealers and duel raid dealer - suits.

Also, what's up with South Point these days? The survey doesn't look like it has been updated in a while. Good single deck rules or what?
