We all know if not agree no system will ever work. But we also know there are strategies that will help you like BS in BJ, taking home-underdogs in the NFL, and dice control if you believe it can be done.

So, for a fun-friday question, where do you draw the line between strategy and system? Lets get our minds working instead of waiting for the weekend.

I believe the difference between a strategy and a system is acceptance of loss.

A strategy such as Basic for BJ is something to minimise losses over the long term after taking HA into account.

A system is something that will generally result in small wins or large losses and generally ignores HA.

A strategy supports a system. In blackjack, you adjust basic strategy to support a counting system. In craps, you adjust your bets (your strategy) to support your belief (your system).

System implies a Betting System coupled with a Betting Strategy.

A method employs a Play-the-game strategy that varies by play advantage/disadvantage: the Betting Strategy is based upon the Play Advantage/Disadvantage. Coupled together the two parts of a method can make a -EV game a +EV game.

The "system" cannot do this.

NandB: Your definition and the associated short explanation is excellent. Well stated.

For me, the problem with most "systems," is they lack flexibility. They seem to be very ridgid when practiced.

To me, a strategy dictates how you play the game. It's how you react to circumstances within the game. A strategy is largely independent of the amount bet (though sometimes a strategy will require you bet a certain way in order to get better payouts).

A betting system is concerned with sizing bets. Many betting systems also incorporate strategies, but you can have one without the other.

Also, strategies attempt to influence the edge while betting systems are ways of altering risk.
