Yesterday a new casino in the [National Exhibition Centre] NEC (East of Birmingham) opened. It is part of a newly built complex by Genting called Resorts World ( https://www.gentinginternationalcasino.com/gaming ). They have also built a hotel, a cinema and a small shopping mall.

For those unfamiliar with UK casinos, most casinos operate under a restricted licence, this is the third casino opened under the rules for larger casinos. As such it has more tables and even more fruit machines. Also, uniquely, it features an "outside" section with four tables where you can smoke.

The only table games on show were Blackjack, Three-Card, Roulette, Double-Zero Roulette and Punto Banco; the three dealer-dealt Punto tables were being ignored, but the remainder were fairly busy. There were also electronic opportunities to play Roulette, SicBo/Craps (similar to Hippodrome), and dealer dealt Three-Card/Punto. I'm told the poker-based table games will open in the card room area. There were also a few side areas for high rollers.

Non-gaming included a sports bar, with several large TV screens showing different Sky Sports channels and a small cafe (similar to the one in Star, Sydney) selling noodles, pizzas etc.

My personal opinion is that it is well laid out and seems roomier than Aspers, Milton Keynes; however Stratford seems to offer more choice of table games. There were leaflets explaining all the games, but my concerns were the "AR06" Double-Zero Roulette table game and the electronic Craps offering US odds. One thing good about the UK used to be the lack of double-zero, so while quite legal it seems a sad trend they are appearing (although they have 50p minimums rather than £1).

Sorry to hear about the double-zero roulette.

What are the other two casinos in UK with unrestricted licenses?

Aspers Stratford (NE London), see https://wizardofodds.com/blog/gambling-united-kingdom/ when a contingent went there after a games show in London and Aspers Milton Keynes (~50 miles NW of London). The former was the first and seems the largest - it is within Westfield Shopping Centre very near to where the Olympics were.

I am guessing Southampton ( https://www.southampton.gov.uk/business-licensing/licensing/large-casino/large-casino-applications.aspx ) may be the next one on the horizon.

Hmm, nothing in Manchester? For some reason I thought there was a big casino there. Are they planning to put one there too?

Thanks for the info.

The only reason I know about Southampton is the complex is currently being built in the city.

There were a few changes in Manchester a few years ago - a few closed and were replaced by a G-casino in Bury Road (which uses two licences to have 40 fruit machines) and a new one in Didsbury. Caesars are a new player in town with their Manchester235. I heard the Genting "Circus" had a recent makeover.

All of them use the old system of licensing - sadly I don't know anything about any large licences there.
