Sahara buffet? Two thumbs down!

I spent three days in Vegas in September 2009, staying at the Sahara.

I had plans of heating water in my room to make instant oatmeal for breakfast. But I like a little butter in my oatmeal, so my first night I had dinner at the buffet, with plans to steal a few pats of butter.

Often, when I go to buffets with my wife, she will comment that I always take the cheaper items and/or items that are probably intended for kids. I avoid vegatables. Give me stuff like fried chicken and pasta and I'm a happy man.

At this buffet, there was none of that. (The kids stuff I mean. There were plenty of vegatables). It was surprising that, as cheap as the buffet was (under $10), that there was nothing that could be classified as kids food, except some bad pizza. Nearly all the other items were fancy stuff and items I couldn't even identify.

Fortunatly, there was also a carving station, so I ate prime rib and sliced turkey for dinner.

But then I went on my mission - to find the dinner rolls and the butter that would be next to them.

NO DINNER ROLLS!

I couldn't believe it.

Isn't there some unwritten rule among buffets to offer dinner rolls? After all, they are just about the easiest and cheapest things to provide, while they tend to be filling. It seems to be a key to profitability that they are missing.

Although my wife has broader tastes than I, she wasn't too pleased with the buffet either.

And I ended up having my morning oatmeal without butter. :(
