Planning a family trip to Paradise, Nevada for the week before Christmas. I thought it would be a lot of fun to use some of those Harrah's comp dollars to play some beer pong with the family at O'Sheas and now I see this terrible news. Anyone know when they plan on closing the great O'Sheas? Is it already closed?

We went to see Dirk Arthur at O'Shea's last summer because there were
some cheapo tix available and that was cheaper than gambling.

Anyways...

a) It was a little sad to see Dirk had to perform in such a dingy theatre.

The armrest on my crappy plastic chair broke, and I mentioned it to
one of the stage hands, and he said not to worry, it happens all the time.

b) We still enjoyed the show.

c) I give credit to Dirk for being so upbeat and putting on a good show.
His attitude was very positive and he gave the impression that he
was still having a great time putting on a show, even though it was
probably his 2000th performance.

I haven't called myself, but a few posts around the web has employees saying Feb 2012. I assumed they would have been doing all the stuff down that alley before they closed any casino making them money. I'll be there in 2 weeks, hoping it is still open then. I was hoping it was going to be open next March as well, but that doesn't look likely now.

No firm closing date yet. There will be several weeks notice, I'm sure. I expect the actual casinos to be the last things to be tampered with during the construction.

You won't see me shedding any tears over losing O'Shaes. 100% of their blackjack was 6-5. The only merit it had, to me at least, was they often hosted bizarre new casino games, like the recent ones based on backgammon and football. No wonder they are going the way of the dodo bird.

It will probably be forgotten but not gone. After it gets absorbed into the Imperial Palace is where it gets interesting.

Apparently the IP name is leased and runs out soon so we could have a whole new name for the refurbished IP.

The IP will be rebranded as Horseshoe.

I've never really played at O'Shea's, but I'll miss slumming there. We'll have to make do with the Casino Royale ;)

I'll miss the $5 Craps table that's practically on the sidewalk, draught Guinness, and cheap food court. Won't miss anything else, really, and certainly not the frat boy crowd that are either on their way to or back from Drai's.

I would not play much BJ there either, but it is nice to have a low end place on the strip. Not all of us can afford to play at the Wynn, Ceasars, and Bellagio the whole trip. They do offer other games as well as Beer Pong!

While I abhor 6:5 BJ, I actually agree with you on this one. O'Shea's is a nice place where the frat guys can hang out and the lowest of low life can feel at home. Now that crowd will spill over into Flamingo and Casino Royale... then make their way into other nicer properties.

The place is an eyesore and needs to be demolished, but every time you lose a place like that you take a part of Vegas with it.

They have stated all along that they will bring back the O'Shea's brand. But the physical building is in the path of the development, as it is simply the front of the garage. The Imperial Palace (now Horseshoe) will simply have it's casino cut up into three smaller casinos (Margaritaville, O'Sheas, and Horseshoe).

I suspect that they will end up breaking up the casinos in Flamingo and Harrah's eventually. It provides the illusion of more choice, and allows target marketing.

For what it's worth, O'Shea's is the home of the World Series of Bear Pong.

However, when I was there for G2E , I noticed several beer pong tables at IP. They weren't there last year. So the conversion has been going on, slowly, for quite a while.

Wait, did I miss something? Is Caesars really going forward with Imperial Palace as a Horseshoe?!?!

First, I always thought BALLY'S was a better choice for a Horseshoe... mostly because it's already a smaller boutique casino with a decent area for table games and a popular poker room. It's a better hotel in a decent location.

Second, for some reason, Caesars has worked really hard to keep Horseshoe as "the gambler's casino." Yes, it's still a Caesars property, but they really give more comps and better service overall. Even with an overhaul, I find it hard to think that the site where Imperial Palace is would be good for Horseshoe. Yes, they have to rebrand it, but frankly they need to rebrand Bally's too.

I enjoyed playing in the O'Shea's poker tournaments. They were always the cheapest and the poker dealers were always nice. Since they're going to shut it down anyway, I hope Harrahs razes the Imperial Palace, O'Shea's and the mother ship and combines the three properties into something more interesting. That would be a nice "Re-invention" of Harrahs.

Well that was the Corporations intention when they purchased the IP in 2005. As they were watching the debacle called City Center, they realized that they were better off keeping the low overhead properties and milking the "middle roller". The Linq project is designed to keep interest in the area, without destroying it's fundamental nature.

O'Sheas is closing permanently at noon, April 30th. On April 28th at noon the property will start the celebration remembering its history. There is some pretty good drink specials and they will be giving away a bunch of memorabilia. For example, a 40 dollar buy-in at blackjack will get you a T shirt. You can also sign a wall that will be placed within The LINQ commemorating O'Sheas. Lord willing, I'll be there.

Never played at O'Sheas but I remember stopping in for a drink during a walking journey up the strip. We sat down and watched people play beer pong. We noticed this 20 something year old with fake boobs, braless and her nipples must have been poking a half inch out of her top. Ah 'twas a glorious day indeed me lads. RIP O'Sheas.

If true, that's pretty crazy, since it is shared by the Flamingo.

The parking structure at O'sheas had to be one of the worst in Las Vegas. Cars were required to negotiate a narrow, one way track that required turning around through a tight, tire and bumper scarred passageway beween two concrete walls. It was bad, even when folks were the most sober during the day.

Well it was true. Check out a video on YouTube here.

Apparently, an "O'Shea's casino within a casino" concept (like Margaritaville and Flamingo) will be built into the, "Tobenamed" casino that will front Linq.

I don't remember seeing these folks in there. Strange how that always happens to me.

Yep, yep. Nice little place if you're looking for drunk rowdiness. Also only the second place I have found comped Lagunitas IPA on the Strip (Mandalay Bay is the other).

Unlike the old O'Shea's, the new O'Shea's is under the Quad's gaming license instead of Flamingo's.

It looks ~nice now, but yeah, give it about 3 years, and you're right. The old O'Shea's looked like it had been through hell and back. And that godawful smell of Subway. At least that's gone now too.
